A fight between two women at a Wilmington pizza restaurant led to one man being shot and another hospitalized on Saturday evening, May 9, police said.

The shooting happened around 5:51 p.m. at Red West Pizza, at 614 W. Pacific Coast Highway, according to a spokeperson for the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division. A male suspect was in custody Saturday night, police said.

A 26-year-old man was trying to break up a fight between two women when he and another man were shot by a man who fled on foot, according to the department. The 26-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, the LAPD spokesman said. Paramedics took the wounded man, in his early to mid-20s, to a hospital.

What led to the violence was not immediately clear. On Saturday night, the LAPD advised the public to avoid the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Bay View Avenue, where an investigation was underway.

The LAPD had no additional information on the shooting Sunday.
