UCLA gymnastics wins 2nd straight Big Ten title

Jordan Chiles wins the all-around with a conference-record 39.825 and scores a perfect 10 on floor as the Bruins post a 198.100

Champaign, Ill. — No. 5 UCLA won its second consecutive Big Ten Championship on Saturday, scoring 198.100.

Jordan Chiles won the all-around with a conference-record 39.825 and scored her seventh perfect 10 of the season on floor exercise to repeat as floor champion. She also won the balance beam title with a 9.950 and tied with teammate Sydney Barros and four others for the uneven bars title at 9.950. Riley Jenkins tied for the vault title with a career-high 9.950.

UCLA started the meet with a 49.425 on balance beam. Chiles scored 9.950 to take the beam lead, but Michigan held the top team score after the first rotation with a 49.550 on floor. Michigan State was next at 49.400, followed by Minnesota at 49.300 and UCLA.

The Bruins moved into the lead in the second rotation with a 49.675 on floor. Chiles made it two straight Big Ten Championships with a perfect 10 on floor, while Ashlee Sullivan added a 9.950 and Tiana Sumanasekera and Mika Webster-Longin each scored 9.925.

UCLA maintained its 0.325 lead over Michigan State after scoring 49.450 on vault. Jenkins led the Bruins with a career-high 9.950, and Chiles added a 9.925.

Closing on uneven bars, Sumanasekera led off with a 9.875 to finish with a career-high all-around score of 39.575. Webster-Longin added a 9.900, Barros scored a career-best 9.950, and Chiles closed with another 9.950 to secure the title for the Bruins.
